Descry doesn't collect usage data. There are no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no accounts, and we don't sell or share anything about you, because we don't have it.
The Descry app
- Location. Descry uses your location to work out which terrain is around you and to reference your compass heading to true north. It's used on your iPhone only and is never sent to us or anyone else.
- Camera and motion. The live camera view and your phone's orientation are processed on your iPhone to place labels. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
- Photos. When you save a labelled skyline photo, Descry adds it to your photo library. It can't read the photos already there, and it never uploads them.
- Map downloads. Descry downloads terrain and place-name data for the regions
you choose from
data.getdescry.com, hosted on Cloudflare. These requests name the region, not your position. As with any website, the host sees your IP address in order to deliver the data; we don't use it to identify or track you. - Settings. Your preferences, calibration, and downloaded regions are stored on your iPhone and removed when you delete the app.
If you've turned on Share with App Developers in iOS settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and aggregate statistics it gathers itself. You can turn that off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
This website
getdescry.com has no analytics or tracking cookies. If you request a TestFlight invite, we keep what you enter in the form, plus the country your request came from, and use it only to plan map coverage and send your invite. We never add you to a mailing list. The form is protected from spam by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks your browser under Cloudflare's privacy policy. To have your request deleted, email us.
Children
Descry doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
